4 Stars Careful on the wings!
by Robert Stimpson from Denver, CO on Mar 14, 2014
This model is a pretty good improvement on the original: better detail and proportions, detailed canopy, accurate detailing and engraved panel lines on the hull, and accurate decals for both the studio model as well as the full-sized mock- up for actor's shots. That said, I do want to caution about the wings: the plastic attaching them to the body is a bit thin, During construction, you may want to either reinforce the plastic, or cut the wings off and use ABS or similar plastic to attach them. I found the plastic would bend and crack after a while, and I needed to use different plastic to reattach the wings. Also, the detail on the pilot's face is a bit soft and nondescript. You'll probably want to drill out the helmet with a ball-headed Dermel tool bit and put in a head from a 1/32 scale figure to compensate. I also advise filing the arms so their position looks more natural and the "football team shoulders" effect is reduced. Overall though, I rate this kit 4 stars; it's really good, but there's some things like what I just mentioned that could be done a little bit better on. -Robert
